Helios Dachau: Stabilizing the heart rhythm changes lives

For many years, Mrs. Zimmer lived with symptoms that increasingly shaped her daily life: recurrent dizziness, sudden heart palpitations, and a vague feeling of weakness that severely limited her quality of life. Numerous medical consultations, multiple diagnoses, and the hope for improvement through two cardiac catheterizations with stent implantations—even in different clinics outside Bavaria—initially brought no lasting change.

“At some point, I no longer knew what was happening to my body,” Mrs. Zimmer describes. “You live in constant uncertainty about whether your heart will go out of rhythm again.”

Acute deterioration of heart rhythm

When Mrs. Zimmer's condition suddenly deteriorated dramatically one day, calling emergency services was the only option left. She was taken by ambulance to the emergency department of Helios Amper Hospital Dachau. There, the cardiology team led by Priv.-Doz. Dr. B. Witzenbichler immediately took over further diagnostics.

The initial examinations already revealed that previous treatments had alleviated symptoms but had not addressed the actual cause. “Such cases are not uncommon—especially when cardiac arrhythmias are complex,” explains Dr. Witzenbichler. “What is crucial is a precise analysis and a structured approach.”

The right therapy

Dr. Witzenbichler immediately initiated electrical cardioversion—a gentle procedure in which the heart rhythm is restored to its natural pattern using a controlled electrical impulse. In addition, he adjusted her medication individually and comprehensively.

The effect was almost immediate. For the first time in years, Mrs. Zimmer felt noticeable relief. In the following weeks, her heart rhythm stabilized permanently. Today — more than six years after this decisive intervention — she is doing well again.

A patient regains her quality of life

Mrs. Zimmer describes her experience impressively: “I entrust my heart only to the empathetic, competent, and always friendly cardiologist Dr. Witzenbichler.” For her, not only the medical outcome was decisive, but also the way she was treated on the ward by the entire team: with calmness, precision, empathy, and a sense of security—especially in a situation that often causes fear and uncertainty.

High-end medicine: Cardiology in Dachau

Mrs. Zimmer’s story exemplifies how important specialized cardiac care is—and how crucial it can be to encounter an experienced team at the right moment. The Department of Cardiology at Helios Helios Amper Hospital Dachau offers a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including:

“Our goal is always not only to treat, but to sustainably improve the quality of life of our patients,” emphasizes Dr. Witzenbichler. For Mrs. Zimmer, this goal has been achieved—and her life has been permanently transformed.
