Heart Center Leipzig has once again received the “Ausgezeichnet. FÜR KINDER” award

Following a comprehensive review, the University Department of Pediatric Cardiology at the Leipzig Heart Center has once again been awarded the nationwide “Ausgezeichnet. FÜR KINDER” (“Excellent. FOR CHILDREN”) quality seal. The distinction confirms the high quality of child-friendly, family-centered inpatient care provided to children and adolescents. The assessment covered, among other areas, medical and nursing care, the range of medical services, emergency care structures, cooperation with other institutions, and quality management measures. The Children’s Heart Center is delighted to have successfully completed the certification process and sees the award as recognition of the entire team’s outstanding commitment.

Providing high-quality medical care for children and adolescents places special demands on hospitals and healthcare teams. Young patients require not only expert diagnostics and treatment, but also age-appropriate care processes, specially trained staff, reliable care structures, and an environment that involves and supports families during challenging situations. The nationwide “Ausgezeichnet. FÜR KINDER” (“Excellent. FOR CHILDREN”) quality seal highlights these standards and provides parents, patients, and referring physicians with valuable guidance when choosing a suitable children’s hospital or pediatric department.

ⓘ The University Department of Pediatric Cardiology at the Leipzig Heart Center continues to hold the quality seal awarded by the independent German Society of Children’s Hospitals and Pediatric Departments (Gesellschaft der Kinderkrankenhäuser und Kinderabteilungen in Deutschland e.V., GKinD), which is valid for two years. The department therefore meets the established criteria for high-quality, child-centered inpatient care for children and adolescents.

The quality seal is awarded on the basis of established quality criteria and is subject to regular review. The assessment covers, among other things, the professional qualifications and sufficient staffing levels of specialist personnel, available areas of specialization, the range of medical services, and continuing education structures. Nursing care also plays a central role. The assessment examines whether qualified pediatric nursing staff are employed, how nursing care is organized, and what training structures are in place. Medical services, such as specialist outpatient clinics and dedicated care programs, are also taken into account.

Another important aspect is the safety and reliability of emergency and medical care. Particular emphasis is also placed on family-centered care. For children, having familiar caregivers close by is often an important part of the recovery process. The quality seal therefore considers whether parents or other caregivers can stay with the child and how the needs of children and their families are incorporated into everyday hospital care. Cooperation with specialized institutions, risk management, surveys of parents and referring physicians, as well as measures for continuous quality assurance and improvement, also form part of the assessment.  Prof. Dr. med. Ingo Dähnert, Director of the University Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Head of the Supraregional EMAH Center at the Leipzig Heart Center, adds:

“This award is a great recognition of our entire team’s work. It demonstrates that we provide our young and youngest patients with high-quality medical care while consistently taking the needs of their families and loved ones into account.”

By successfully completing the certification process, the Leipzig Children’s Heart Center underscores its strong commitment to providing high-quality inpatient care for children and adolescents. The award also recognizes the interdisciplinary collaboration of professionals from all disciplines who work every day to provide young patients with expert medical care tailored to their age and the needs of their families.
