Helios University Hospital Wuppertal appoints new Chief Physician of Pulmonology

Helios University Hospital Wuppertal (HUHW) has appointed a new Chief Physician. Professor Stefan Krüger, MD, has assumed leadership of the Department of Pulmonology, Allergology, Sleep Medicine, and Respiratory Care.

Professor Stefan Krüger, MD, a specialist in Internal Medicine, Pulmonology, Cardiology, Intensive Care Medicine, Allergology, and Sports Medicine, brings many years of experience in academic tertiary care as well as in leading major pulmonary medicine departments to the Bergisches Land region.

Professor Krüger studied medicine at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and completed his entire specialist training at RWTH Aachen University Hospital. He subsequently worked at the Center for Pulmonology and Thoracic Surgery of the Asklepios Specialist Clinics in Munich-Gauting, Lukaskrankenhaus Neuss, and Ulm University Hospital. He then returned to RWTH Aachen, where he headed the Pulmonology Section. Since 2012, Professor Krüger has served as Chief Physician of the Department of Pulmonology, Cardiology, and Internal Intensive Care Medicine at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Düsseldorf. In parallel, he has also been Head of Pulmonology at Düsseldorf University Hospital since 2014.

The Department of Pulmonology, Allergology, Sleep Medicine, and Respiratory Care at Helios University Hospital Wuppertal (HUHW) provides comprehensive care for the full spectrum of acute and chronic lung and respiratory diseases. These include bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, interstitial lung diseases, allergies, sleep-related breathing disorders, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of lung cancer. Additional areas of expertise include advanced interventional bronchoscopy and both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. "HUHW has a renowned pulmonary medicine department supported by an outstanding interdisciplinary environment. I look forward to working with this dedicated team to further expand high-quality medical care for the people of Wuppertal and the entire region," says Professor Krüger.

The new Chief Physician places particular emphasis on close interdisciplinary collaboration:

At the Bergisches Lung Center, we work particularly closely with the Department of Thoracic Surgery under the leadership of PD Dr. Christian Biancosino. Together with our colleagues in oncology, intensive care medicine, radiology, and other specialties, we aim to further integrate our expertise under one roof and create new diagnostic and therapeutic opportunities for our patients."
