Helios Hildesheim has been certified as a diabetes treatment cent

The pediatric diabetes outpatient clinic at Helios Hospital Hildesheim has received the “Diabetes Center DDG” quality seal from the German Diabetes Association. This officially certifies that the facility meets the high structural and process quality standards required for the specialized treatment of children and adolescents with diabetes.

Diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disease in childhood and adolescence. The requirements for treatment are high, as it requires not only medical expertise but also close involvement of the patient’s social environment. Certification by the German Diabetes Association serves as a guide for patients and their families: it guarantees that treatment is provided in accordance with current scientific guidelines and by a qualified interdisciplinary team.

Holistic approach

The diabetes center at Helios Hospital Hildesheim relies on a combination of state-of-the-art medical technology and individualized care. Innovative technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring systems (CGM) and automated insulin delivery systems (AID) are used, enabling young patients to achieve a high level of safety and flexibility in everyday life.

“The certification is an important milestone for us and at the same time a great recognition of the work of our entire team,” explains Uta Werner, diabetologist DDG and specialist in pediatrics. She emphasizes: “Holistic care is particularly important to us: diabetes affects not only the daily lives of young patients but also those of their families.”

Interdisciplinary expertise for better quality of life

The success is based on a well-coordinated interdisciplinary team. Diabetologists, diabetes educators, psychologists, as well as experts in physiotherapy and social medical aftercare work hand in hand. This network is further supported by the Bunter Kreis to ensure a smooth transition from hospital care to the home environment.

The center offers individualized therapy and education programs for patients aged 0 to 21 years. “Our goal is not only to optimize metabolic values but also to promote the independence of children and adolescents and enable them to lead as normal and carefree a life as possible,” Werner adds.

With the new certification, Helios Hospital Hildesheim is further expanding its role as a central hub for pediatric diabetology in the region. “This award is also a responsibility for us,” explains hospital managing director Sascha Kucera. “We aim to continuously improve and strengthen care for affected families in our region.”
