Curriculum vitae (in extracts)

Professor Thilo Noack studied medicine at Freie Universität Berlin and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He completed his specialist training in cardiac surgery at Heart Center Leipzig, where he joined the University Department of Cardiac Surgery in 2009 under the supervision of Professor Friedrich-Wilhelm Mohr. He subsequently qualified as a specialist in cardiac surgery and continued his clinical career as part of Professor Michael A. Borger’s team.

In 2012, Thilo Noack was awarded his Doctor of Medicine (Dr. med.) degree by Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. In the following years, his clinical and scientific work increasingly focused on the surgical and transcatheter treatment of heart valve disease, particularly mitral valve disorders, as well as the application of advanced imaging techniques in cardiac surgery.

In 2020, Thilo Noack completed his habilitation at the Faculty of Medicine of Leipzig University, receiving the degree of Dr. med. habil. and authorization to teach in the field of cardiac surgery. 

In 2024, he was appointed Professor of Structural Heart Disease at Leipzig University. Professor Thilo Noack currently serves as Senior Consultant at the University Department of Cardiac Surgery at Heart Center Leipzig and Head of the Division of Structural Heart Disease. 

Academic activities

Professor Thilo Noack is actively involved in academic and scientific research at Leipzig University and Heart Center Leipzig. He is Professor of Structural Heart Disease and holds teaching authorization in Cardiac Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of Leipzig University. At Heart Center Leipzig, he co-leads the Structural Heart Disease Research Group. His main research interests include heart valve disease, mitral valve pathology and repair, 3D and 4D cardiac imaging, and surgical and transcatheter therapies for valvular heart disease. Professor Noack is involved in clinical research evaluating new approaches to mitral valve treatment, including the international MATTERHORN trial, and contributes as a faculty member and invited expert to international scientific and educational programs in cardiothoracic surgery.
