With 507 beds the HELIOS Hospital Berlin-Zehlendorf is one of the largest hospitals providing specialized care in the southwest of Berlin. It was formed in the year 2000 through the fusion of three recognized medical institutions: The Oskar-Helene-Heim (OHH), the Chest Clinic Heckeshorn and the local hospital.
Accordingly, its roots reach back into medical history as far as the beginning of the 20th century, when, for instance, the renowned OHH had been founded. Over the following decades the OHH developed a specialization on the orthopedic field, which is still one core competence of our modern hospital. The chest clinic on the other hand was conducive to the focus on pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery and the management of acute and chronic respiratory disorders in general.
