Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen C. W. Kiwit

Prof. Dr. Kiwit is chief physician since 1998 in the department for neurosurgery at the HELIOS hospital Berlin-Buch. His spectrum of treatments contains neurosurgical diagnostics and therapy from spinal diseases / injuries, compression syndromes, brain tumors as well as perfusion disorders of the brain including vascular malformations. Even seriously ill patients with brain injuries, bleedings or tumors are treated here. Prof. Dr. Kiwits specialities are e.g. the treatment of brain tumors as well as development and implementation of chemotherapy strategies, the operation of vascular malformations using interventional neuro-radiological techniques and microsurgical treatment with multimodal monitoring. Most of the performed operations are performed in minimal-invasive, endoscopic or microsurgical techniques. Prof. Dr. Kiwit is especially active in the area of research and development of innovative surgical methods and procedures and member of several medical specialist groups and scientific specialist associations. In this edition of the newsletter we want to focus on a clinical picture - vascular malformations of the brain - and illustrate therapeutical options.
