2,613 Babies were born at the HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch in 2013

Obstetrics at the HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch was in high demand by expecting parents from Berlin and the surrounding area in 2013 again. 2,613 children were born altogether, of whom 102 were twins and three were triplets. 1,351 were boys and 1,262 were girls.

Professor Dr. med Michael Untch, Chief Physician at the Clinic for Gynaecology and Obstetrics at HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch, is excited about the Buch obstetrics’ consistent popularity over the years: “Expecting parents appreciate the vast experience of our doctors, midwives and care personnel, our family-friendly and modern atmosphere, as well as the comprehensive care for high-risk pregnant women who suffer, for example, from gestational diabetes or premature labour pains.” Sick or premature newborns are treated at the perinatal centre’s highest treatment level (Level 1) at the clinic.

Professor Dr. med. Lothar Schweigerer, Chief Physician at the Clinic for Children and Youth Medicine and head of the Buch Perinatal Centre (Level 1), explains: “This year, we have medically treated 66 premature babies under 1,500 grams, of which 30 infants weighed under 1,000 grams. We are especially proud of our premature babies’ high survival rate, which reached 99 per cent again in 2013.” “Safe and individual” is the motto of the obstetrical department at the HELIOS Klinikum Berlin-Buch.

In addition to modern obstetrics, the clinic also offers comprehensive care for high-risk pregnancies, multiple births, and premature births. The Clinic for Children and Youth Medicine and the Clinic for Children’s Surgery work closely together alongside obstetrics with the highest level care for premature births (Level 1). This strong interdisciplinary cooperation guarantees ideal care for mothers and infants before, during, and after birth throughout the year.
