Deep venous thrombosis

A blood coagulates also called thrombus in the deep venous system of the leg is not dangerous in itself. The condition becomes critical when a portion of the blood clot breaks off. The blood clot, embolus, moves downstream through the heart into the pulmonary circulation system, and becomes stuck in the lung. Finding and then treatment of a deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is intended to avoid pulmonary embolism.
