Lipoma

Lipomas are fatty, non-cancerous tumors which grow slowly between the skin and the underlying muscle tissue.  Lipomas are usually painless, soft to the touch and slide easily under the skin.  They occur most commonly in people of middle age, although children can also be affected by lipoma.  In most cases, lipomas do not require any treatment and they are not dangerous.  If the tumor becomes so large that it becomes painful or restricts movement it may be removed surgically.  Generally, lipomas are removed for cosmetic reasons.
