Tracheomalacia

Tracheomalacia is a medical indication characterized by flaccidity of the tracheal support cartilage. This can lead to tracheal collapse specifically when increased airflow is necessary. The trachea normally dilates slightly during inspiration and narrows slightly during expiration. These processes are excessively in tracheomalacia, resulting in airway collapse on expiration. Usual symptom of tracheomalacia is expiratory stridor or laryngeal crow. If the medical condition goes further to the bronchi (if there is also bronchomalacia), it is named tracheobronchomalacia. The same condition can also affect the larynx. This is then called laryngomalacia.
