Dislocation

Dislocation is an injury to a joint of the body whereby the bones that come together to construct the joint are forced out of their normal positions.  Such injuries may cause sudden and intense pain and immobilise and deform the injured joint.  With prompt medical attention the bones can be repositioned and recovery is often complete within weeks.  However in some cases of dislocation (eg. shoulder dislocation) there is an increased risk of repeated dislocation, even after a full recovery.

Finger arthrosis

Ankle arthrosis is when the cartilage of the ankle becomes worn away over time.  This degeneration of cartilage may be caused by a variety of factors including a former injury to the ankle, an infection of the ankle joint, systemic disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or simply being overweight.  Pain in the ankle is the most common symptom of ankle arthrosis.  Other signs may include stiffness and swelling, deformity or a feeling of instability in the ankle joint.  Common conservative treatments for ankle arthrosis include making lifestyle changes (eg. less impact sport, losing weight), changing footwear, using a brace to support the ankle and foot and anti-inflammatory medication.  Should these measures prove unsuccessful, surgery with a skilled orthopaedic surgeon may be necessary.
