Gallbladder cancer

Gallbladder cancer begins in the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a little organ on the right side of your stomach below your liver. The gallbladder supplies bile, a digestive fluid produced by the liver. Gallbladder cancer is exceptional. When gallbladder cancer is diagnosed at its most primitive stages, the chance to restore health is good. Gallbladder cancer is not easy to diagnose since it often shows no signs or symptoms. The fairly hidden position of the gallbladder makes it easier for gallbladder cancer to grow without being detected.

Gastric cancer

Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, occurs in the stomach, a muscular sac that receives and stores food that is eaten, preparing it for further digestion.  The most common kind of stomach cancer originates in glandular cells that line the inside of the stomach and produce mucous.  Stomach cancer often does not exhibit specific symptoms until a relatively late stage of the cancer.  Unfortunately, if first detected at a late stage, the prognosis of stomach cancer is often poor.  Treatment of stomach cancer may include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that affects some women during pregnancy.  As in other forms of diabetes, gestational diabetes inhibits the body’s proper use of glucose, which is the body’s main source of energy.  While the high blood sugar levels associated with gestational diabetes usually do not have adverse effects for the pregnant mother, they can cause health problems for the unborn child.  Generally gestational diabetes can be managed with a healthy diet and regular exercise.  In some cases anti-diabetic medication may also be necessary.

Hemophilia

Hemophilia is usually an inherited disease which affects the blood-clotting system.  Clotting is the process whereby blood changes its consistency from a liquid to a solid state in order to bring bleeding to a standstill. There are various different types of hemophilia which may vary in their degree of severity, all of which can however cause prolonged bleeding. Internal bleeding and bleeding into joints are considered the primary health concerns of hemophilia. Although hemophilia can not be cured, if managed properly, people with hemophilia can still live out an active and independent lifestyle.

Hepatitis A

Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver that is very contagious and caused by the hepatitis A virus.  There are several types of hepatitis virus which have in common their tendency to cause inflammation in the liver, thereby impairing the liver’s function.  Hepatitis A is usually acquired through eating contaminated food or drinking contaminated water. It can also be contracted from close contact with another person infected with the virus.  Hepatitis A can be treated well and most people who become infected make a full recovery and suffer no permanent liver damage. In mild cases of hepatitis A, treatment may not even be necessary.  Hygienic measures, such as regular hand-washing, are an effective way of protecting oneself against hepatitis A. Vaccinations are also available to prevent infection.

Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a contagious and serious infection of the liver which is caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV).  There are several types of hepatitis virus which have in common their tendency to cause inflammation in the liver, thereby impairing the liver’s function.  Hepatitis B can be contracted through contact with blood or body fluids of an infected person.  Infections with the hepatitis B virus can potentially become chronic which may then result in liver failure, cancer of the liver or liver cirrhosis, a condition where the liver is permanently damaged and scarred.  Usually, adults who become infected with hepatitis B can make a full recovery, even though the symptoms of the infection are severe. A hepatitis B infection in children is much more likely to develop into a chronic illness.  Hepatitis B infections can be prevented by vaccination.  People already infected with the hepatitis B virus can avoid spreading the virus by taking certain, simple precautions.

Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a contagious viral infection of the liver that results in inflammation of the liver.  Usually, people who have contracted hepatitis C do not show any immediate symptoms and, in the absence of a medical blood test, the infection can continue unnoticed for decades.  Hepatitis C is generally considered one of the most serious hepatitis viruses.  It can be spread through contact with the blood of an infected person and therefore arises at a high rate in people sharing needles for illegal drug use.  <//font>

Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system, a component of the body’s immune system.  A more common form of cancer of the lymphatic system is the so-called, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Hodgkin’s lymphoma begins with an abnormal growth of cells within the lymphatic system which can then spread to other regions. With the progression of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the body’s immune system becomes less capable of fighting infection. While in the past Hodgkin’s lymphoma was usually fatal, these days it is a very treatable disease due to advances made in diagnosis and treatment.

Invasive lobular carcinoma

Invasive lobular carcinoma is a kind of breast cancer which begins in the lobules - the glands in the breast that produce milk - and then spreads into the surrounding tissues.  Although invasive lobular carcinoma is often more difficult to detect than the more common form of breast cancer (invasive ductal carcinoma) and is therefore first diagnosed at a later stage, its prognosis is generally better than that of invasive ductal carcinoma.  Treatment of invasive lobular carcinoma may involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy or hormone therapy.

Kidney cancer/renal cancer

The kidneys are fist-sized, bean-shaped organs, located on each side of the spine and situated behind the organs of the abdomen.  Kidney cancer can occur in people of all ages.  The type of kidney cancer that usually arises in adults is called renal cell carcinoma.  Renal cell carcinoma originates in the cells of the small tubes within the kidneys.  Surgery is often the preferred method of treatment if the renal cell carcinoma has not yet spread to other organs.  If the cancer has already spread, treatment becomes considerably more difficult.  In children, the most common type of kidney cancer is Wilms’ tumor.  Wilms’ tumor responds well to treatment, which may involve a combination of surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy.  Kidney cancer often does not show any signs or symptoms in the early stages, making it difficult to detect.  In advanced stages, signs or symptoms of kidney cancer may include blood in the urine and a palpable lump in the kidney area.  Less often, one may experience fatigue, weight loss and persistent pain in the sides.
