Rhinoplasty (nose surgery)

Nose surgery involves changing the structure of the nose, either to comply with a person’s aesthetic wishes or to improve nasal breathing.  As nasal structure is directly related to nasal function, it is a priority in nose surgery to retain (or where possible, improve) nasal function.  The size of the nose can be increased or decreased, the nose can be made narrower and the point of the nose can be altered with nose surgery.  If the nose is bent, the cartilage wall (nasal septum) between the two sides of the nose can also be straightened.  Material for nose surgery either be obtained from the body itself (eg. cartilage from the ear) or synthetic/industrially-prepared implants can be used.

Ruptured ear drum

A ruptured ear drum refers to a tearing of the thin layer of tissue that separates the outer ear from the middle ear. A ruptured ear drum may arise following an ear infection, from trauma to the ear or from exposure to excessively loud noise. A ruptured ear drum results in impaired hearing and can make the middle ear more susceptible to infections or injury. Therapy of a ruptured ear drum may involve conservative treatment to promote healing or surgery.
